Lt. Col. Smith was informed that there were two bridges which were necessary to secure in order to prevent the rebels from interrupting the troops while they were destroying the military stores at Concord, which were the object of the expedition to effect. Accordingly three companies of light infantry were detached to the bridge on the right and three companies to that on the left. The houses at Concord were searched, and some pieces of cannon, carriage wheels, ammunition and flour found. The trunnions of the guns were knocked off, the wheels broken and the ammunition destroyed.
